There was nothing short of surprises and announcements at this years Expo! It was full of information that made every fan scream in delight and cheer in excitement. Here are the biggest and best Disney Parks and Cruise Line announcements that were revealed at this years D23 Expo…
What we have been calling “Star Wars Land” has finally gotten a name! At both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the new “land” will be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Opening in 2019, this new land will completely immerse guests into the world of Star Wars and space and watch their favorite characters come to life. It will feature two new attractions and one that will be bigger than anything that has every been completed. Any Star Wars lover will be enthralled with flying the Millenium Falcon or riding a Star Destroyer! After completing your missions and gaining galactic points, guests can stop over at the cantina where you will run into a few familiar characters. To go along with this new land at Walt Disney World, Disney announced a brand new Star Wars themed resort for all of their guests to enjoy! This is definitely one of the best announcements there has ever been at an Expo and we cannot wait for everything to take shape!
Walt Disney World alone was the focus for a number of exciting announcements…..first and most importantly, our favorite mouse is FINALLY getting his own attraction! That’s right….it was unveiled over the weekend that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! This has been something that has been missing from the parks since the beginning….Mickey and Minnie deserve this recognition and we are beyond excited that it is finally happening. Guests will be taken into the world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon short and it will include technical aspects that have never been done. It will surely be a bold event and we cannot wait to see it unfold. Construction on the ride will get to work after the final day of operation for the current Great Movie Ride attraction. The last day to see the current ride will be August 13, 2017 and it will then close permanently to make way for this new Mickey and Minnie attraction!
A few other exciting announcements out of Walt Disney World are the addition of new attractions, transport and restaurants in Epcot, Magic Kingdom Park, and Hollywood Studios! In Epcot we will be given a new Guardians of the Galaxy Ride that is completely different then the current ride in Disneyland! It will be located in Future World and will take the place of the Universe of Energy attraction which will close August 13, 2017 to make way for this new E-ticket attraction!
Also, over in the France Pavilion a new “Ratatouille” attraction is being added! Much like the Disneyland Paris attraction, guests will be able to see the world through the eyes of Remy.
Over in Magic kingdom Park, Disney is bringing it’s beloved and popular “Tron” attraction from Shanghai Disneyland to sit in a whole new area right next to Space Mountain! This announcement had the crowd overjoyed with excitement and anticipation for what the future holds! In addition to the attractions, Epcot will also open a new space themed restaurant located next to the park’s Mission: SPACE ride. All three attractions are scheduled for opening during the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort in 2021!!
Let’s not forget about Hollywood Studios! Toys Story Land has finally been scheduled for opening in Summer 2018! This is an exciting development as we all have been wondering and guessing as to when it would eventually open.
Lastly, the transport around the resort is about to get easier! The newly announced Disney Skyliner is a gondola like system that rises you high above the resorts and connects to each other so you can safely travel with your favorite Disney characters to another destination.
Also, the new Minnie Van service will provide a point-to-point transportation at Walt Disney World Resort, giving guests an even more seamless resort vacation from start to finish. I think it’s safe to say, it’s going to be an exciting few years for Walt Disney World!
Disney Cruise Line wouldn’t be left out of the spectacle of announcements! Any cruise line junkie knows that Disney has started building two new ships to add to the Disney Cruise Line fleet and they are scheduled for voyage in 2021 and 2023. Well the announcement on Saturday left everyone speechless! They are building a 7th ship! Apparently Disney Cruise Line is just so popular and exciting that the higher ups needed a 7th ship to complete their tribe! It is scheduled to be open in 2022, which is right in between the other two which is so amazing to hear, since DCL vacations are some of the best in the world. This is definitely mind blowing information and we can’t wait to hear these three new ships names!
Over in the original Disney park, Disneyland is getting some exciting updates and additions as well! The most shocking announcement was the new Pixar Pier that will be replacing the current Paradise Pier! It will include more Pixar characters, details and interactions and it will kick off sometime in 2018 with a new Pixar Fest! The most popular part of this change is moving the Pixar Play Parade over to Disneyland with a new fireworks show to go along with it and then adding the famous Paint the Night parade to Disney California Adventure! Yes, that’s right….Paint the Night Returns with possibly a new float added to it! It is almost impossible to contain our excitement for this announcement! We can’t wait to see the beloved parade again. Over in Cars Land, this year it will be getting a Halloween overlay! All of our favorite elements of Cars Land will get re imagined for a Halloween theme for this years festivities and on Buena Vista Street, it will look a whole lot like Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas!
And lastly, the long time Marvel land rumors were heightened as they gave a tiny bit of information on a new superhero experience coming Disney California Adventure. This part is still in the works but definitely keep your ears open for more news on this possibly soon!
Well it looks like this weekend was full of priceless information and we cannot wait to watch everything develop and come to life!
