Epic Universe Maps on Universal Studios App What Are The Virtual Lines

Yes, yes I’m a Disney fanatic. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love the Universal theme park which is close to Disney World in Orlando.

I have visited Universal several times, the last being 2025 after the Epic Universe part of the theme park was launched. It was every bit as wonderful as I thought it would be and more. And the plus? Now we have a new update to the Universal Orlando app, making it easier for you and me to explore the place.

I sincerely wish this update was available last year. It was quite a journey figuring out where to go in the new Epic area of the park. So if you’re planning to visit soon, you’ll be able to find dining locations, souvenir shops, attractions, rides and more in the Epic Universe more easily.

But wait! There’s more to this app than just seeing where everything is located.

Let me explain in more detail. So let’s start at the very beginning.

What Is The Epic Universe?

So Epic Universe was a part of the Universe Theme Park in Orlando, Florida. It opened on May 22, 2025.

This new park is further divided into five distinct areas. There is the Celestial Park, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe.

I love how the entire thing is arranged, personally. When you go to Celestial Park, it serves the main or “reception” area of sorts. There are several “portals” here that will lead into the other four parts of the EPIC Universe.

Then there is SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, which is a great hit with adults and kids alike. It’s so brilliantly colorful and has so many fun attractions including Yoshi’s adventure, Mine-Cart Madness and my absolute favorite, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.

If you’ve been to the Universe Park in London, you will know that the Wizarding World park is a huge deal. And in 2025, they bought some of that magic to Universe Orlando with the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. Some parts of it literally make you feel as if you’re in a cosy Diagon Alley bookstore and not in the sweltering Florida.

Another favorite is How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk which has attractions including Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Fyre Drill and more.

Lastly, there is the Dark Universe, which takes visitors into Universal’s classic monster stories, Werewolves, Frankenstein’s monsters, Mummies – you’ve got it all here!

What Can You See In The Epic Universe Map?

Okay, now that you know WHAT the EPIC Universe is and what it entails, let’s have a look att what parts or areas of the five theme parks you can see in the EPIC universe map.

All of the EPIC Universe theme parks are covered in the map. You can take a look at all five areas of this park and everything in it.

If you want to take a look at what restaurants are available in the park, where they are located, etc. to help you plan your itinerary you can do so. You can also look at shops, attractions, and more to help you create a digital layout as such which you can follow. This was immensely helpful to me when I last went there.

Because of this app, I could take a look at all of the sections of the EPIC Universe park and take a walk around the park digitally without ever setting foot in the area before. Trust me, if you crunched for time during your Universe Theme Park vacation, this is a godsend.

What Is The Virtual Line on the EPIC Universe Map?

Okay so, this is something out of the ordinary for the EPIC universe map. So in the app, when you select one of the land icons, an information box appears. And you also get options to “favorite” the location and a display called “Virtual Line”.

Now this whole thing would be interesting in itself. But this became very intriguing when you notice that the same wording appeared on different areas of the EPIC universe and not just a single attraction.

So then there was speculation that Universal was planning something for the EPIC Universe, maybe a new attraction or expansion of the park.

So What Was Universal Planning Virtual Lines for the Epic Universe?

There’s no official confirmation from Universal as to what the “Virtual Lines” message meant. A lot of people have speculated that it had been added accidentally when the app’s new update was being developed.

A few others thought that Universal was going to be launching a Virtual Line or digital reservation of sorts for the theme park, or at least for specific attractions or restaurants. But no such information has been confirmed.

That meant there was no confirmation that guests would need a Virtual Line reservation to enter any of the themed worlds, nor was there confirmation that individual attractions would use the system.

But since Universal Studios Hollywood and Japan have used similar Virtual Line online reservation systems for crowd management before, the theory doesn’t seem very far-fetched.

The Epic Universe Map Gives Fans Plenty to Explore

I have loved going to Universal Studios theme park over the years. But the thing is, it’s a vast park with a lot to do. And I’ve also known some people to try to fit in Disney World and Universal in one day or weekend.

And this leaves a lot of guests in a time lurch!

So this EPIC Universe Map feature is fantastic for guests to plan their day. You can get digital tours of the themed areas and prepare an itinerary of the places, rides, attractions and restaurants you’re going to visit. No last minute plans or regrets!

You can even map out the layout of the park to give you an idea where to go first and how to navigate inside the park.

As for the “Virtual Lines” business. We do not know yet! There’s no official confirmation from Universal Studios about whether a Virtual Line for crowd control would be implemented if the park is too busy. I kind of hope they do, because I have visited Universal Studios in Japan where they do this and everything runs so seamlessly.
